Need a new alternator...at least I hope that's why my volts are down at under 12 on idle...Just read a few posts...Seems the 94 v6 alternator might be the way to go...it puts out 130 amps ($159 at advanced plus core) ...Is seems like it would be enough. I am only pulling an extra 30 amps for the fans,

no experience here so looking for some feedback on what other might have found works...very much appreciated.

using a March pulley tensioner system...not sure how much that matters.

Just bought my '90 - 347 Monster...need to get through emmisions as I want to register the car. Car has no catyltic converters. My understanding from talking to a state emmissions rep is that I need an visual inspection on the cats and to pass the emmissions through a test designed for the original vehicle...I don't have much more details than that...Here is what is on there State web site...

"If your vehicle is a 1995 or older, and has a GVWR, that is less than 8500LBS, it will be tested using a method called Acceleration Simulation Mode (ASM 25/25). This type of test simulates driving at 25 MPH using the dynamometer while applying a 25% load equated to your vehicle make and model. The inspector will insert a probe in your vehicle’s tailpipe to measure the emissions while the vehicle is driven on the dynamometer."

My mechanic friend and I agreed that I should find the cheepest ones that will fit and then remove them after the test. I'd rather not remove them as I need to be tested in another two years.

my requirements are passing the test, keeping performance while the cats are on and leaving them on, and ground clearance...

So...

Will a small cheap set of Cats pass emissions in CT with a ford Stroker 347 set-up - RPM performer - EFI...with a stock A9P...Any thoughts on the above would be great...Meierznutz...your in CT right? any experience here you can share?

There is no OBD required testing for this year car...

Thanks in advance.

Got my LS-1 swap running last month and just sorted it out enough to start putting miles on her. I have new tensioner and idler pulleys on and a brand new Alternator and waterpump also. I even replaced the damper when the pulley walked off the center hub so everything is new.
Why the post?? I had a squeal that wouldnt go away and drove me nuts! Come to find out I had routed the PCV tube from the passenger valve cover to a port behind the throttle body. It pulled so much vacumme that the rings were....well ringing! Moved it to the port off the front of the TB (air cleaner side of the butterfly) and Viola! Fixed.... quiet as a church mouse now.

Red 1990 V8 Miata. Asking $27,500

The interesting:
This is the first home built V8 Miata, as proven by articles and a write up in Norman Garrett’s book. Car has been significantly modified since the write up.
Have magazine, newspaper and book to go with car.
Car was driven and signed (inside of trunk lid) by the creator of the Miata, Takao Kijimi
Extra amp sometimes used for subwoofers (I didn’t need the extra “thump”)

The bad:
No A/C or ABS

Just thought I would check in with what I found on my build. I winitially got the car together running stock springs and shocks. She sat low in the front and everything dragged. Today I installed an oddball combination (because it's what I had) of Tokico Illuminas with '05 Mazdaspeed red springs, Fat Cat Motorsports bumpstops, and Flying Miata top hats (rears only for the hats). The rears were 2" shorter than stock before installing but were stock height once on the car. The fronts have the nose a little high but that could also be that the car was too low before. I may switch to NB top hats for the front to bring the snout down. The best news is that the car handles better than it did before the swap.
Keep an eye out for the Mazdaspeed springs.... they make a nice choice for our swaps!

Hey guys. Great site. I just bought a 94 Miata for $800. Has anyone tried to put the V6 from the new mustang in a Miata? It has 305 horsepower stock, and lots of speed parts are available already. Main reason I want to use that motor is it only weighs 335lb or so with aluminum block and heads and will rev over 7000rpm. It is a 60 degree design so it is very compact, smaller than a 5.0. They are appearing in salvage yards, but are still pricey. Any tips or ideas would be great. Thanks

My son just mentioned that the new Mustang Boss 302 would be a great engine, but I haven't researched to know if it will fit. Again, any suggestions would be appreciated. I know everyone has their own favorite and I am looking for multiple inputs to help me make my decision.

Hi all, I am new to this forum. I have a 1990 Mustang 302 EFI with a T5 manual transmission. The engine is the only thing left to remove. I was considering a FF Cobra kit but a friend of mine told me to look up Miata conversions and it's a perfect choice. Less work, same fun driving and you get some creature comforts at the same time (like a roof). Oh and probably less cost and last but not least less difficulty dealing with the Canadian paper pushers at registration and insurance time. I was fortunate to get a FF Cobra manual before I spent any real money on the project to help me decide which way to go with all the options. Sounds like a big brake kit and a roll bar are a must have on the Miata. I plan on squeezing 300 hp out of the engine which will be easy. Does anyone know where I can get a Miata conversion manual online to see what else is involved? I need to know which Mustang parts to save and what else I need to find other than a rear end and axles. I will buy a kit but don't know where yet. I have a thousand other questions about how much welding is required and which is the best Miata to convert, AC, wheels and tires etc. Stacey David on Gearz TV made it look too easy. Cheers.

I have seen the Kenne Bell installed but not a centrifugal. It appears there will be fitment with the hood and the radiator with extra pulley. I can solve the pulley by using a reverse rotation charger, the hood may be a bit more complicated since the charger is so far forward and does not appear that a cowl hood would help. Thanks.

Hey Everyne,

I picked up a 5.0 from a 1996 Ford Explorer with 160,000 for $200 on CL that I'm going to rebuild and the plan is to install it this winter in my 92' Miata.

I'm trying to keep the rebuild on the low end of costs so no big stroker kit or turbo.

This is my first car motor rebuild other than rebuilding a 2-stroke mercruiser 175 hp so some of this is all new to me.

1. If I have to bore out the cylinders (.20 to .30 over?) what budget freindly pistons and rings are a good option?

2. I'll use a cam from a mustang...what years should I look for?

3. Will the rockers, valves and springs from the GT explorer heads work with a mustang cam? If not what should I be looking for?

4. What is the difference between using a distributor and coil packs? Explorer was set up with coil packs.

5. Already found an oil pan and timing cover from a Mustang on CL for $10

6. ECU should be the A9l what years should I be look for?

7. The inside of the intake has build up of crude that needs to be cleaned out...I suppose this should cleaned at a machine shop?

Thanks for input

Erik
