Cool 99 Mustang IRS OEM Rear Mount

Has anyone tried using the stock rear IRS pumpkin mount. Looks too convenient to not at least try to me.

Of course this is all upside down. Any one have any thoughts on this stock set up.
Thanks

To be 100% honest I don't see how it would be any easier than the way people usually mount the rear of the 8.8. Only difference being that it would probably be less prone to transmit NVH. But I personally would rather not use it knowing all the issues cobras had with differential movement. Some even broke rear covers because they flexed so much.

Looks like it actually lines up pretty well. Maybe using two, one on each side would tend to distribute the stress a little better. Does someone like Energy Suspension make a urethane bushing for it?

I don't get the 3-point mounting that seems to be prevalent on the later models, either Getrag or the newer 8.8 Explorers. Just seems like the non-symmetrical mounting would lead to some unusual loading effects.

Cool IRS mounting

Being that this build I am using a 7.5 out of a 92 T-bird and a stock 225 HP 5.0 for power I am willing to give it a try. I can always change my mind after a few blasts down the track. I will install my GOPRO under the rear bumper and actually record what's going on with a hard launch. If I feel it needs it, I will upgrade to a 4 point mount.
As to Urethane bushings I just make my own and in the case of that rear mount I have a liquid urethane I can pour in once I remove the rubber. Depending on what hardener I use gives me the durometer, (86) I am looking for.
On the subject of urethane bushings, WHY so expensive? $300 US for $15 worth of urethane, give me a break. I have urethane bar stock and a lathe, not going to happen on my watch.

Thanks for replies, will keep moving forward.

My only thought was the same about the soft stock rubber. I used the stock Tbird mount and ended up running a couple of bolts through it to firm it up.

I use these solid alum bushings for the front mounts. Mounting the rear in something solid is pretty easy to do, too. A solid mount helps prevent case fractures.

Is the Mustang 8.8 the same as the T-Bird/Cougar 8.8?

Assuming you're talking about the aluminum case 99 Mustang Cobra, it is functionally the same, it has the same mechanical bits, they're both 28 spline, the case itself is slightly different, I assume the metal is actually thicker and it has some extra stiffening ribs. But once the conversion is in place, they can usually be interchanged unless one of the stiffening ribs happens to hit something.

I happen to have both in the shop right now, if I can get it together, I will try to take some pics. Or you can take a ride up to Sarasota and take a look for yourself
