The turbo being mounted by the rear differential, then apparently piped back to the front of the engine is a new one by me and appears to defy logic

I thought it was strange as well. I'd be curious to know how it performs like that.

Down on power and a ton of turbo lag at the very least

Rear mount turbo's have been around for awhile. STS Turbos has been building kits that way for a long time. See alot of them on Corvettes.

On a purpose built motor, absolutely, on a pretty stock 5.0L ford with some aftermarket parts designed to give you an extra 25-30hp at the crank, sorry, imbalanced at best

I've actually been looking at this. Still learning about cars and it seems the turbo placement isn't ideal but does include all the other goodies and owners has been very responsive with questions.

It is placed back there for weight distribution I didn't want the car to be too front heavy and seeing how the weight distribution only changed about 1 percent from factory I would say it works well also there isn't much space up front for it. From what I've heard from my tuner the turbo kicks in at the same point as a other turbo mustangs he has tuned. However the low gears go quickly so it dosnt build full boost in first gear. I got te idea from corvettes they have been doing it for many years with good results

This car is not imbalanced it made 300rwhp on motor and gained 120 rwhp and 140 rwtq on 6 psi the turbo is in back for weight distribution and lack of space under the hood. The wight distribution is 52 48 and that was before the roll bar was installed so it is very close to being a perfectly balanced miata the weight from the turbo helps u put the power down along with a smooth power band curve.
